In this forum post, Line 6 customer roblof cracked open his X3 and gave us specs on some of the electronic components inside the X3. This is what he saw:
POD X3 Processing Power
- X3 CPU: NXP ARM7-Controller LPC2220FBD144
- X3 Converters: 3pcs of the CS4272 – 24-Bit, 192 kHz, 114 dB Stereo CODEC
- X3 DSP: SHARC ADSP-21369 at 266MHz, 1.6 GFLOPS
- XT DSP: SHARC ADSP-21065 at 60 MHz, 180 MFLOPS
- Axe-FX DSP: TigerSharc at 500MHz, 3.0GFLOPS
All in all, it works out to almost nine times the DSP horsepower of POD XT. Nine POD XT units in one box! Well, the DSP power of 9 POD XT units. In actual features and capability it is more like two POD XT units in one box. The sound is great though. Line 6 must have been able to work some extra mojo in there this time with the increased power available. Many of the amp models and effects just sound more wow. One fine example that is instantly noticeable is the Criminal model from the XT era Metal Shop model pack. To my ears, the Criminal was pretty useless going direct. Through a tube power amp and half stack it killed, but direct it was wimpy and worthless. The X3 is another story. The Criminal amp model in X3 sounds awesome direct or through a power amp. Many other amp models are improved, but that is the one I think has the most tangible increase in sonic character.

POD X3 Input and Output Impedance
More notes from roblof concerning impedance of the inputs and outputs of the POD X3L.
- OUTPUTS
- Live Out (amp mode): 680 Ohm
- Live Out (line mode): 2.7 kOhm
- FX Send: 100 kOhm
- Headphone out: 47 kOhm
- INPUTS
- Guitar In: 1.0 MOhm
- Aux Input: unknown
- FX Return: 1.0 MOhm
Note: roblof is not 100% certain of these values.Note: The circuits on the AUX and GUITAR inputs do not appear to be identical.
Dimensions
- POD X3 Live
- inches: 21.50 x 9.25 x 3.25
- centimeters: 54.6 x 23.5 x 8.3
- POD X3 Pro (rack width, 3 rack spaces high):
- inches: 19 x 5 x 8
- centimeters: 48.3 x 12.7 x 20.3
Other
- POD X3 internal sample rate is 48KHz

Turns out page 57 of the spec actually pegs it as:
X3 DSP: SHARC ADSP-21369 at 266MHz, 1.6 GFLOPS
Thanks again to roblof for all the research!
Added the I/O specs today. Thanks again to roblof!
Added the physical dimensions of the unit.

On page 2 wrote 400MHz, 2.4 GFLOPS!
@alesys
Nice doc! It says “up to 400MHz” and “can perform 2.4 GFLOPS running at 400MHz.” However, the spec also says the chip has configurable versions that can be clocked as low as 266MHz. I don’t have the expertise in this area to determine how the Line 6 use of the chip is configured.
Thanx a lot!
hello everybody here
..I had a big trouble when I used to download by monkey the latest updates usb firmware!! so for now none of my PC’s recognize my POD X3 live so then I contact LIne 6 support on thier site I explain what happened and shows that my USB firmware is 0.0 shown on the unit system page!!
they told me that’s, could be a hardware issue, and told that I have to bring it back to the near Line 6 store I could found!! yes great, but the near one is in spain or france.. my problem is this, I can’t help it!! I’m in Algeria and to send my POD is expensive and can not move away “political fucking problems which results bullshit like visa etc”” is there anyone how can help me to resolve this by myself!!
thanks guys!!
