POD Patches – Guitar World (January 2008)

These tones the tones for the songs transcribed in the January 2008 issue of Guitar World. They are billed as POD patches but will work on any Line 6 that has the appropriate amp models. I have also uploaded a bundle you can use to load the tones into your X3 using version 1.21 of Line 6 Monkey. This month I have recorded sound samples of the tones as well. I used three different guitars getting the tones this month so gear notes are inline with the tones.

DiMarzio DP159 Evolution price check DiMarzio DP704 Evolution 7-String price check Lenny and No Quarter are both tuned down a 1/2 step so I used my customized ’97 Ibanez Universe on these tracks. I have an Evolution pickup in the bridge position which is set up with a coil split. I used it as a humbucker for No Quarter and a single coil on Lenny. This pickup sounds great in single coil mode but it does lack a little bit of that strat spank.

	Epiphone Les Paul price check Kid Rock’s So Hott is in drop D tuning so I used my Epiphone 7-string Les Paul to make it easier to tune down. The 7-string lester is kind of rare (try ebay) but this is the modern 6-string equivalent. The stock pickups are great and very classic sounding but I replaced them to get a more hot rodded tone.
	Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB price check Seymour Duncan JB 7-String Pickup price check I put the JB in the bridge position and you can hear this pickup in action on my sound clip for this song. This pickup was designed to have high output and a ton of sustain and harmonics.

I put these patches into Line 6 Edit presets for those of you not using the X3 series. They should work with GearBox too. Here are the downloads. DO NOT use these with X3, they are for XT and any other Line 6 units that can load XT formatted presets.
